5 Mental Health Tips for Grad School
MSBA students offer advice on self-care, compassion, positivity

Whether it’s taking time for your self-care, showing compassion for yourself and the people around you, or addressing feelings of isolation, there are many important lessons to remember when it comes to your mental health as a graduate school student.
On World Mental Health Day last month, students from the UC Davis Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program took to social media to share ways their class is working together to maintain a positive, productive and supportive environment. Students shared tips and photos on Instagram, with an introductory post from MSBA Student President Waleed Irfan MSBA 22.
Their five tips:
- “Check up on your classmates and try to look for the positives in each day,” said Waleed Irfan MSBA 22.
- “Embrace being human. Approach yourself and the people around you with compassion and empathy,” posted Julia Wallace MSBA 22.
- “Take time for self-care,” said Lexman Kumar MSBA 22.
- “Check in with friends, family, and loved ones through FaceTime or video calls,” said Jodi Go MSBA 22.
- “If there is anything the past year has taught us, it’s the importance of creating a community that you can look up to and depend on when you need them the most. Surround yourself with happy people; happiness is contagious. I feel blessed to have my peers as my happy people,” said Rajprakash Bale MSBA 22.
